Stroman T. (Buddy) Watford Sr., went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2009 in the home and caring hands of his caregiver and longtime family friend, Crystal Shear.
Mr. Watford was greatly loved by his family, having set an example with his kindness and decency for them to follow.
He was born April 15, 1920 in Darlington County SC. He was an Air Force Veteran with 24 years of service, including active participation in WWII, the Korean War (63 combat missions in B-29 Bombers) and the Viet Nam war. Mr. Watford was a flight engineer all of his Military career. After leaving the military, Mr. Watford started a family business, Woodside Surplus Sales, Inc., that he worked until retiring at the age of 70. He loved collecting antiques and advertising collectibles, and spent many years traveling the US and Canada building a nationally recognized collection, along with his wife, Mary, who also shared his loved of the hobby.
Mr. Watford was preceded in death by his parents Leon Curtis and Evelyn Watford, brothers Foster and Raymond Watford, and his loving first wife Ethel, daughter Jeannie and son-in-law Gary Kavanagh.
Surviving Mr. Watford are wife Mary, stepdaughters Cynthia Campbell of Norwalk CT, Heather Landeck of Edwards CO, Janet Campbell of Frenchtown, NJ, son Stroman T. Watford Jr. and wife Bonnie of Milford, daughters Mary M. Vannoy and husband Bob of Cheswold, Dana L. Kavanagh of Felton and Theresa A. Furber and husband Sonny of Camden and nephew Raymond E. Watford Jr. of GA. Also step grandchildren Christopher and Andreas Landeck, Amelia Campbell-Drexler, grandchildren Stroman T. Watford III and wife Coleen of Hayden ID, Melissa Watford of Camden, Nicholas Furber and wife Sheila of Stockholm ME, Bradley Furber of Camden, Sean Conner and wife Amber of Presque Isle ME, Claude E. Paitsel III of Georgetown, Earl E. Cole and wife Peggy Sue of Camden, Charlina Patterson of Chestertown, MD, James Craig Patterson of Cheswold, and great grandchildren Whitley Patterson-Purnell, Sheena and Michael Cole, Scott Watford, Shane and Kendra Furber, Logan and Joilyn Conner, Jeannie and Claude Paitsel, Little Bobby, Kimberly, James and Taylor.
Service will be 11 am Saturday, Nov. 7 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will follow at Sharon Hills/Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, DE.
