Friends of the late Claude George Tisinger Jr., 80, of Dover, may call on the family at noon Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel on 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where memorial services will follow at 1 p.m.

Mr. Tisinger died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009.

Mr. Tisinger was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Conicville, Va., the son of Claude George Tisinger and Goldie Virginia Dellinger.

Mr. Tisinger held a bachelor’s degree in science and biology from Berea College, Berea, Ky., and a master’s degree in education from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. During his college years Mr. Tisinger served two years in the United States Air Force.

After graduating from Berea College, he taught high school science and biology in Virginia and then in Delaware. Later he served as science supervisor, then curriculum supervisor and then administrative assistant to the superintendent in the Caesar Rodney School District. Mr. Tisinger was a member of the Delaware Association of School Administrators, Friends of the Dover Public Library and Gideons International. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and especially spending time with his three grandsons. He was a member of Christ Church in Conicville, Va., and after coming to Dover, a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he taught adult education classes and served on several boards and committees.

Mr. Tisinger was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Madaline, Nancy and Doris.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Emma; a daughter, Tara; a son, Darian and his wife Joan; a daughter Lisa and her husband Travis; grandsons, Anthony, Ethan and Eli; and three brothers, Richard, Donald and Marion.

Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Kent General Hospital, 640 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
