Clarence T. Scuse, Jr. of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away Wednesday December 2, 2009 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. He was 76.

Clarence was born June 4, 1933 in Smyrna the son of the late Clarence T. Scuse, Sr. and Ora Faucett Scuse.

He was a Class of 1952 graduate of Smyrna High School.

Clarence served in the United States Army for two years before taking over the family dairy farm in March of 1957 and milked cows until 1965. At that time he sold the cattle and started grain farming.

He went into the Auctioneering business in 1961 and started a partnership in farming with his sons Michael and Dale in 1985 and retired in 1997.

Clarence served as Vice President of the Delaware State Fair, Vice Chairman of the Delaware Electric Cooperative, Inc., and Director of the Harrington Raceway.

He also served as a member of the Advisory Council for Soil and Water.

Clarence had formerly served as Director of Delaware Farm Credit, as the State Committee Chairman of ASCS from 1976 until 1980, on the Kent county ASCS Committee for 10 years, the State Committee Chairman for Farm Service Agency from 1992 until 1996.

He was a member of Kent County Ducks Unlimited and a co-founder of the Whitehall Neck Sportsman Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Scuse in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Burris Scuse; two sons, Michael Scuse and his wife, Patrice of Smyrna and Dale Scuse and his wife, Vicky of Smyrna; a daughter, Robin Hamburg and her husband, Richard of Smyrna; a brother, George Scuse, Sr. of Smyrna; three sisters, Maude Lucks and Dorothy Wallace both of Dover, Delaware, and Margaret Ann Ware of Hebron, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Darryl and Christopher Scuse, Connor Hamburg, Ashley Nash, Holly Hufford and Jamie Sharp and five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brandon Scuse, Riley Hufford and Kaylee and Brayden Sharp.

Services will be Saturday December 5, 2009 at 11am in Asbury United Methodist Church, 22-24 West Mt. Vernon Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 9pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills/Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna, Delaware.
