Florence M. Roock

Florence Margaret Ann Meyer Roock, entered eternal rest Wednesday, March 3, 2010, after a brief illness at the age of 92.

Florence was born to William and Charlotte Emilie (Kirchoff) Meyer in Concordia, Mo. March 14, 1917. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Concordia High School. She excelled in academics and would have loved to have attended college.

Florence married a Nebraskan, Rev. John C. Roock of Borger, Texas, in December 1940, in Concordia, Mo. They were blessed with five children. Her husband’s career as Lutheran pastor took them from Borger, Texas in 1947 to Brownwood, Texas in 1952; to Houston, Texas in 1954; to Conover, N.C.; and in 1962, to Dover.

She was blessed with an inquisitive mind and a great memory. She enjoyed handwork and quilting, crossword puzzles, the study of history and Bible, among numerous interests. She treasured each gift she received during life and enjoyed creating a special gift for each grandchild. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dover, where her husband served as pastor from 1962-1980.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, to whom she was married for 50 years; a daughter, Ann Roock Wrenn; and a son, Carl Roock.

She is survived by a brother, Floyd (Marjorie) Meyer of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Meyer of Kansas City, Mo. and Louise Roock of Anaheim, Calif.; three children, John (Barbara) Roock of Bluffton, S.C., Mark (Janet) Roock of St. Louis, Mo. and Karen (Jan) Melhunek of Easton, Md.; son-in-law, Tommy Wrenn of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter-in­law, Josie Roock of Dover; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover, for the Rev. John Roock Endowment.
