Charles Richard "Pete" Gourley passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010, in Kent General Hospital after a short illness. He was 76.

He was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Dover, son of the late Elwood C. and Mary David Gourley.

Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army in the missile division from 1955 to 1957. He retired from Sears & Roebuck Co. after 35 years of service.

Pete was a hard working, loving man who liked to work outside in his yard and in his garden. He always shared his vegetables with his family and neighbors. Pete was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Kish Gourley, 1973; a devoted companion of 10 years, Cora Reed; sister, Marianna Gourley Luff; and two brothers-in-law, Walker Luff, and George "Teddy" Burd.

He leaves many wonderful memories to his sons, Dennis Dale Gourley and his devoted companion Mindy Burd of Magnolia, and Charles Crusson Gourley of Chadds Ford, Pa.; two granddaughters, Autumn Marie Gourley of Magnolia, and Donna Yoder Purcell of Hartly; one stepson, Christopher White of Dover; two sisters, Shirley Gourley Burd, and Margaret Gourley Clough and her husband Watson of Dover; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE.
